Joanna Babb
“Pour” Paintings

(1955-2018)

Referring to herself as the “That Pour Old Lady,” Joanna Babb was a compassionate artist with a heart for children, evidenced by the fact she served as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) during the final year of her life. During the last few months of Joanna‘s creative life, she spent time sharing her talent with the nurses in the hospital. You could walk by and see her doing artwork with them. She blessed so many people.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from the University of Illinois South, but didn’t actually begin painting seriously until 2017.

Being a night owl, she spent many nights watching videos on “pour” painting, and became quite prolific in this extremely laborious technique. Joanna was highly intelligent, and this process quickly became second nature to her. As her husband, Jim, would say, “You don’t control the paint, the paint controls you.”

All she needed was enough space to set up the required materials to create this unique masterpieces. At one point, she took all of her CASA kids to a local church and let each one produce a painting.

Amy had the pleasure of meeting her just before she became ill and found her to be a loyal friend. She felt her art should be shared, and therefore it is included on this site. Each piece is a unique, one-of-a-kind painting, and there are no prints available.
